Looking Back (installation view) - 1989/ongoing
Silver prints
11" x 14" each

Looking Back began in 1989 as an inventory of photographs of all the people I know. Each image was made with natural light and printed approximately life size. In each photograph the subject made eye contact with me and when these photographs are shown in massive grids, the effect is that hundreds of faces are looking back at the viewer. There is also an aspect of familiarity of faces when confronted by so many as well as the inevitable recognitions via the six degrees of separation phenomenon.
